Liu Heung Shing

Born in Hong Kong, Liu Heung Shing worked in China from 1976 as a photojournalist (and later bureau chief) for Time magazine, and also for the Associated Press and other international media.

He documented the changes following the death of Mao, which were the subject of his book China After Mao in 1983, and of an exhibition.

In 1992 he shared a team Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the collapse of the Communist regime in the Soviet Union, which was also the subject of another of his many books, published in the same year

Keynote Presentations

His first keynote on Thursday, 2nd May at 19:00 will be “China, Portrait of a country (1949 – 2008)”. This will be an expose of the book of the same name edited by Liu and featuring the work of 88 photographers over this period.
