Norm Heke

With Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Kahu and Te Arawa iwi affiliations, Norm has worked as a photographer and digital imaging specialist at Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand for more than 20 years. He has previously worked as a commercial studio photographer and as a forensic photographer.

His role at Te Papa involves a wide range of functions and services, including photographing exhibitions, major projects and events, and the museum’s natural environment, taonga Māori, art and New Zealand history. His work has appeared in numerous magazines, journals, exhibitions and catalogues.

Norm was the first photographer to receive the Toi Iho trademark acknowledging quality in Māori art. His large body of personal work includes the major project “OMGs: Māori Gods in the 21st Century”, which was exhibited at Pataka in 2011.
